A/C Checkups
02/08/12
Spring air conditioning Checkups were designed to keep your A/C System running
efficiently and trouble free for years past the life expectancy of the unit.
Keeping air condition motor bearings oiled, repairing loose or corroded wire
connections, checking pressures and theoretically finding potential problems
before it becomes serious
or malfunctions. There's nothing worse than waking up in the middle of the night
sweating only to find
your Air Conditioner is not working which could have been prevented with professional
maintenance. Unfortunately, this is not a sure bet of preventing all problems.
Your system can be running fine one day
and completely burnout the next. Some things cannot be prevented. But with regular
maintenance, your system will perform efficiently for many years.
How to Choose a Maintenance Plan
This can be a difficult and tricky decision. First, you need to find an Honest
reputable and well established air condition service company. Watch out for
Salesmen in Technicians Clothes. Some companies offer checkups for rock bottom
prices. The technician they send you is really a Salesman working on commissions.
He needs to SELL
to earn any money....So guess what?
Many companies offer a special once a year rate to come out and inspect your
system from top to bottom without signing a contract. This is just a good as
a one, two or three year contract except you do not receive any discounts if
repairs are needed during the year.
Before you sign or say yes, ask what is involved and included with the inspection.
You want one which includes but not limited to:
air condition Condenser
- Pressure check
- Visual inspection of wiring for loose or corroded connections
- Visual inspection for presence of oil which may indicate the need for
repairs (*caution)
- air condition Oil motor bearings
- Tightening all hardware
- Current draw, excessive amperage is damaging to the compressor.
- Visual inspection of condenser coils for damage and restrictions
Air Handler/ Evaporator
- Visual inspection of wiring for loose or corroded connections (minor repairs
should be included at no extra cost)
- Oil motor bearings
- Clean or replace filter
- Tightening all hardware
- Condensation drain, pan, pump, auxiliary pan. Cleaning the drain system
should be included at no extra charge.
- Evaporator coils need to be free of damage and Clean (*Caution)
Duct System
The entire duct system should be checked at least once a year for leaks
and damage. If you are pulling in attic air, the cooling efficiency will be
lost and the evaporator coils will become dirty.
air condition Over All
Make sure you are getting what you're paying for. A good company will not do
you wrong. Be careful, and be aware of what the technician is doing. Always
get a second opinion if repairs will cost more than $150 especially if it is
working. And always have it justified and explained.
