Welcome to airconditionmission3.com where you can find all things related to the world of Air Conditioners. Air conditioning. What a lifesaver. It has made the suburbs possible. Manufacturing from the north to the south occurred because plants could be built and people could work in them without collapsing from the heat. Its cost at one point, however, drew one scientist, William Schockley the co-inventor of the transistor, to move his research facilities to California, to what later became known as Silicon Valley. There he did not have to put air conditioning in his building. Even when air-conditioning was purposely avoided, it had an impact.

So it started out as a way of making people comfortable. Right? Well, not exactly. In 1882, thanks to Thomas Edison, the first electric power plant opened in New York making it possible for the first time to have an inexpensive source of energy for residential and commercial buildings. And by 1889, central station refrigeration was used in large cities to preserve foods and documents. It was well known that a cool surrounding could preserve foods and other perishables for a long time. But what was not well known was how humidity and heat were related. Then in 1902, Willis Carrier built the first air conditioner to combat humidity inside a printing company. Controlling the humidity in printing companies and textile mills was the start of environment management.

Regular Air Conditoning Maintenance

02/07/12

Regular maintenance is a must. Like any piece of machinery, Air Conditoning , if it is not 'tuned up' periodically, it will not run efficiently or last as many years. Below are a few items you may be able to perform yourself to help keep your system running efficiently.

The number one item to check is your Air Conditoning filter. Be sure it is cleaned or replaced regularly. During the heavy months, changing it once a month is a good idea. I also recommend using a disposable Air Conditoning filter. They are cheap enough and filter the dust better than some permanent style filters.

If you are able to, inspecting the duct system once a year and making minor repairs with some duct tape would save you some money.

Spring time is a good time to clean the condenser coils. Be Sure the power is disconnected. Spraying the coils with a garden hose will remove the dirt from the previous year. Sand and other debris gets sucked into the coils and will cause the unit to run inefficiently. Also trim back any plants or foliage at least a foot away for proper air flow.

Cleaning evaporator coils is a little tricky and care must be taken.

Depending on how mechanically inclined you may be, oiling the motors is a must. If you are not sure of yourself on this, don't try.

Hopefully you will have many trouble free years of Air Conditioning. You can also expect to make a service call. Know the company you are dealing with, get second opinions when repair costs will be high and if you suspect a fraudulent company, turn them in!
